The spectacular site of thousands of seals basking in their natural habitat is truly breathtaking. It's occasions like this that remind me of how lucky I am to live a short drive from the coastlines of Norfolk.
During the months of November through to January, the beach between Winterton-on-sea and Horsey is a one of the best accessible grey seal colony sites in the world.
After speaking with David Vyse, a member of 'The Friends of Horsey Seals', I learnt that they have had a record number of 1820 seal pups born this season which is far in excess of their 1500 total last season.
Sadly, as you have probably heard in the regional news, there have been a number of incidents resulting in seal pup deaths. Thankfully The Friends of Horsey Seals volunteers have stepped in and have been patrolling the beach and ensuring these vulnerable animals are undisturbed from humans and dogs.
The Friends of Horsey Seals are a voluntary organisation and are always looking for new wardens to assist with wardening during the pupping season, safeguarding the seals on the beach and educating the public. If you are interested, please get in touch!
Following the Nature Photographers Code of Practice, I couldn't resist taking a few photographs of our these gorgeous creatures.
